I wonder if I/we could actually make this happen. Even an 1/8mile would be ok.

I think with your Rock Star Statues in this town. And with your connections. I think you could pull it off. I'd be down for meetings to get some sponsors.

I would be down with organizing this.

Pros:
1. Lots of people up here have vehicles they race, or would like to race
2. We could do winter drags (sleds, 4x4 whatever)

Cons:
1. Land up here is stupid expensive.
2. Insurance for a strip is not cheap.
3. Start up cost is a lot.

Con Solutions:
1. Look for land as far away from town, but a good drive distance: eg. 15 km's
2. Look for monetary sponsors.

It would be a good idea to do a 1/8 mile first to see the popularity, then later move on to a 1/4 mile when there is a good foot in the ground.

I mean, a quarter mile isn't that far of a stretch even to begin with. And even if you had to travel, lets say, anzac-ish. it still wouldn't be that far.

Ya a 1/4 mile would be 2 times initial start up costs, 2 times insurance cost and almost 2 time the land!

Yeah, but thinking about it more, aim big. We live in Fort McMurray, as if it couldn't happen. You know what, let's do it!! McMurray matters on Mix 103 and KYX give radio time for community stuff like this as well.

I would say the hardest part about this would be the land and insurance.

But I would totally help organize this.

I am sure the local police would be all for us opening it up...

And yes, a 1/4 > 1/8 mile...

I am actually going to start trying to work on this and figure this out. I will contact the city and find out who I need to speak to about land.

I heard that Suncor actually donated money for the "Track" North of town. i heard he did absolutely nothing with it. But companies are up for anything.

Sweet! I love when CJ Gets a one tracked mind. He ends up owning a new bike, quad, truck, a million ps3's.

It also gets me into trouble sometimes, soon to be money trouble too if I keep up the toy buying. On that note, I already have new junk for the quad and getting more tomorrow in Edmonton. I will have to call Mike to go out on quad if one/some of you guys don't step up and get some other toys.

I also did the Mayor's house as well, maybe I will start by calling her.
